Notes for JAMES R. THOMAS:
Some evidence from LDS indicates he might be born IL, 1872, to father William Thomas, as found on 1880 census at Flat Branch, Shelby, IL. I think this might be somewhere in Pope County, although I thought they were always in Saline County.

Elsewhere, LDS says 1875, in Long Branch area.

Syndactyly refers to joined or "webbed" digits - in the hand, most often this refers to adjacent fingers ...

Out of respect for Hallie, I would prefer not to enter this information, but for a formal report, I must. Hallie had webbed fingers, I do not know if she had webbed toes. She was either mildly retarded or socially awkward. She had an assertive manner at times, which leads me to believe she was mildly retarded and was frustrated by her ability to keep up. I recently learned that her uncle, my father, Denis Thomas, became something of a mentor, because she wanted to learn. She especially wanted to do arithmetic and to understand certain social behaviors and their significance.
