ISAAC DURHAM (about 1792 - August 1879)
PROOF: Isaac Durham's father was William Berry Durham, Sr.
KNOWN Facts:
Death:
Judgement Pleadings in Pickens County, SC Court of Common Pleas, Roll No. 992-filed
29th April 1882. Case of Dru Ann Lee-Plaintiff against Nancy Edes, John Edes,
Wm. J. Durham, S.A. Hammons,et al Defdts. This court case states that Isaac Durham
departed this life in August of 1879 and his wife, Fanny Durham, departed this
life in January of 1880.
Birth:
Isaac gave his age as 56 years old and born in SC on the 1850 US Census for the
Eastern Division of Pickens County, SC. That calculates birth in 1794.
In the 1860 US Census of the 5th Regmt in Pickens County, SC taken on 30 JUL
1860 he gave his age as 68 years old and born in Anderson County, SC. That calculates
birth in 1792.
In the 1870 US Census of Easley Township in the Keowee P.O. taken on 20 AUG 1870
he gave his age as 80 years old and born in SC. That calculates birth in 1790.
(Isaac Durham died in 1879 and was not on the 1880 US Census.)
CONCLUSION:
From the above census data, Isaac Durham was born in Anderson County in the early
1790s about 1792. The only Durham family that had a male child that fits this
known data in the 1800 US Census and living in, what is now, Anderson County,
SC is that of the William Berry Durham, Sr. family.
KNOWN:
The 1800 US Census has four (4) DURHAM families living in Pendleton District
which later included Anderson County, SC. Charles Durham and Daniel Durham were
living in, what is now, Pickens County. Only David Durham and William Durham
(William Berry Durham, Sr.) was living in, what is now, Anderson County, SC in
1800.
The 1800 US Census shows David Durham with no children under the age of 10 years
old, so Isaac Durham could not have been his son.
The 1800 US Census shows William Durham (William Berry Durham, Sr.) with two
(2) male children under 10 years of age. We know one was William Berry Durham,
Jr., so the other one had to be Isaac Durham.
(This also explains why Powdersville Durham(s) married people from Six Mile,
SC.)
