"Big Dora" DURHAM was born on 30 Jun 1867 in North Carolina.
She was listed as 12 years old in the 1880 US Census of Wagner Township, Oconee
County, SC and the stepdaughter of John Dowis.
Her Death Certificate lists her as born in NC per her daughter, Lila Helms, who
lived in Monroe, NC in 1950.
She died on 2 Feb 1950 in Wagner Township, near Walhalla, Oconee County, SC.
She died Thursday at 4:00 AM at her home above Walhalla at the age of 82 years
old.
Dora's death certificate # 50- 001925 did not give her parent's name, but it
did give her husband's first name. His name was Henry.
She was buried on 3 Feb 1950 in Rocky Knoll Baptist Church Cemetery, Oconee
County, SC. Funeral services were held Friday at 3:00 PM at Rocky
Knoll Baptist Church (Hwy. 28 west of Walhalla.) per her obituary in the Keowee
Courier on Thursday, 9 FEB 1950 on Page 7, Column A. There is no tombstone.
There were several cousins named Dora. This Dora was the oldest Dora and called
Big Dora (she wasn't big).
Henry and Dora were in the 1910 US Census for Walton County, GA. Dora was 42
and Henry was 52 years old.
