Not sure about the following, but it seems reasonable since Mastin was born in Hanover County in 1755 and there is another such listing in James' Coffey's notes. Their properties were relatively close.

Just Notes for Further Research
Wish to correspond with Durham lines showing ancestors with birthplace as Albemarle or Amherst Counties in VA.

Specifically seeking info on the John Durham who on 14Feb1761 paid five shillings to King Geo II for 250A in Albemarle Co., VA on Turkey Run & Rolling Creek branches of Hardware River. [Land Office Patents 1756-1761]

On 17Jun1778 John Durrum, of Amherst, sold for 50 pounds, 250A in Albemarle County to my ancestor, David Durrum. John's wife, Issabel [Mabel?] relinquishes dower rights. [Albemarle Co., VA DB7:231]

Does anyone connect with this John Durham? Or perhaps other Durhams of Amherst? Hoping to solve mystery of relationship John to David and John's whereabouts after this transaction.

Thanks, Shirley

John and Eleanor ("ellnoy") Bailey were witnesses to the will of John Durham, Burke Co., NC, probated January 1803.

Is this John Bailey the brother of Mabel Bailey, wife of John Durham, whom he probably married in Amherst Co., VA by 5 October 1778 when the couple sold land to Jonathan Waters?

What is the connection to Edmund Bailey, who appeared in Wilkes Co., NC, ca. 1780s along with John and Mabel Durham?

John Durham is said to have been the son and perhaps the only child of James Durham and to have inherited land from his father in Chesterfield Co., VA, but no will for James Durham has been found. Does anyone have any information on this James Durham?

Please email directly: Newgate2000@aol.com.

In the 1790 Wilkes County Census there are 2 males of 16 years & upwards that are in the household of John Durham, John being the oldest. In the 1800 Burke County Census there is a William Durham (26-44) listed. John Durham is in the same county. (They alphabetized the names, so I don't know what vicinity William would be in relation to John.)
There are many pages in the 1810 Census (Burke County NC) that are completely illegible, William may have been there, but it's impossible to find if he was.
