Jacob Brooks Wagner, was born 2 July 1829 in Orange County, NC, and married Sarah Ann Durham, born Feb 1835, on 29 January 1851 in Guilford County, North Carolina. Jacob was the son of George Wagoner, Jr. and Rebecca Withsell of Orange County, North Caorlina. Sarah's parents were John and Nancy Durham of Virginia. Not much is known of the first five years of Jacob and Sarah's marriage. They bought property in Goodsonville (later Bristol, Virginia) in 1856.
