1. William DURHAM was born about 1806 in Kentucky or North Carolina.^1,2,3,4,5 He died before 1880 in Vernon County, Missouri.⁶ It is possible that William Durham, b. 1807, is the son of William Durham and Susannah Hatcher. William Durham seems to have strong associations with other people in Pulaski County, Kentucky. More research is needed.

NOTE: In the 1850 Census for Pulaski County, Kentucky (Division 2), William Durham, age 44 is married to Mary (Mary "Polly" Baugh). In the same Division 2, there is also a Robertson Vaughn, age 61 married to Elizabeth (Durham). Elizabeth Durham is the daughter of Gregory Durham and Elizabeth Shelton of Henry County, Virginia. (Deed of 1816 - Stokes County, NC - Elizabeth Durham to Henry Christian) William Durham somehow may connect to this Durham family. Also listed in the 1860 is Drury Burge who married Mary (Durham) Shelton in Stokes County, North Carolina on 4 Dec 1822. More research is needed.

In the 1880 Census for Vernon County, Missouri (Lake - District 215), Sarilda Durham, age 48 is listed as "head of household" and "widowed". She is listed with sons: John W., age 20; Wm R., age 15; and M. A. (Morris), age 13; all born in Missouri.

In the 1900 Census for Limestone County, Texas (Prairie Hill and Mount Antioch - District 54), S. Durham (Sarilda Durham), age 65 and "widowed" is listed as "Mother" in the household of M. A. Durham (Morris A. Durham), age 33, and wife Belle J. (NOTE: There is one small error with the 1900 Census - M. A. Durham shows that his mother was born in "Indiana", but the "Mother" listed, "S. Durham" shows she was born in "Kentucky".)

Thomas A. Legrand, Plt'f against Robert Wooldridge, Edward Wooldridge, Rhoda Scruggs, Claiborne Inge and Polly his wife, Rhoda Sweeny, Robert Baugh, Polly Durham formerly Baugh, Joel W. Inge, and William Wooldridge, Narcissa Berryman formerly Wooldridge, and John Wooldridge, heirs and Representatives of Josiah Wooldridge, dec'd. Defendants;

This day came the Plaintiff and filed his bill, whereupon William Patteson is appointed guardian for the Defendant, Joel W. Inge, who is an infant under the age of 21 years for the special purpose of defending his interests in this suit, and the Defendants Rhoda Scruggs, Rhoda Sweeney, Robert Baugh, William Wooldridge, Narcissa Berryman, and John Wooldridge, heirs and representatives of Josiah Wooldridge not having entered their appearance and given security according to an act of the General Assembly and the rules of this Court, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court, that they are not inhabitants of this state, on the motion of the Plaintiff by his Counsel, It is ordered, that the said defendants Rhoda Scruggs, Rhoda Sweeney, Robert Baugh, Polly Durham formerly Baugh, William Wooldridge, Narcissa Berryman, and John Wooldridge, heirs and representatives of Josiah Wooldridge do appear here on the 1st day of June, Court next, and answer the Plaintiff's bill, and that a copy of this order be forthwith inserted in some one of the public newspapers, printed in the town of Lynchburg for two months successively and also posted at the front door of the Court House of this county.
