WILL OF WILLIAM DURHAM
"being feeble in body but of sound mind and memory." To wife, Mary,
the farm on which he lived together with all stock of horses, cattle, sheep and
hogs to her sole use and benefit. Also all household & kitchen furniture,
farming utensils, etc., to be used in any way she may think proper as long as
she shall live. To "my wife Mary, all my slaves to-wit: Ann, Nancy, Susan,
Mariah, Parttima & Margaret, Thomas, James, Lewis, George, Henry, Jackson,
& William. She shall have whole control of said slaves as long as she shall
live. Margaret Ashby Durham & Mary Susan Durham to live with their mother
and to enjoy all the privileges that they have enjoyed without their paying any
remuneration or board. At wife's death farm and all stock, furniture & utensils
to be sold to highest bidder and "my slaves above named with their increase
shall be sold among my children, none else to purchase, they arrange the mode
of selling among themselves." Also farm in Taylor ( county ?) to be sold
and proceeds applied to payment for farm "on which I live." Executor
- son, Benjamin Durham, to see that the bequests above stated be strictly complied
with.
