I have before me handwritten papers that may have been copied from an old Bible
since the hand writing is rather uniform. The script is as I read it and there
may be minor errors made in reading but will do my best. All entries are for
the Archibald Durham Family of Orange County, North Carolina. Archibald was born
about 1782 in Orange County and was the son of William Lindsey Durham and wife
Anne Cate. Archibald first married Margaret (Peggy) Stroud, daughter of John
Stroud and Delilah Bryant on 31 March 1803 in Orange County, NC. Margaret was
born 16 April 1787 in Orange County, and died 12 July 1813. Archibald then took
as his second wife Jane Carruthers (also spelled Careathers) on 1 February 1816
in Orange County. Jane was born 1 June 1804 and died 15 January 1867. I have
the children and their descendants but will not list them here. Now for the Archibald
Family Entries:
Archibald Durham and Peggy Durham was married in the year of our lord March the
last day 1803.
Jan Durham was born in the year of our lord June the first day 1804
Alvis Durham was born in the year of our lord June the first day 1806
Delilah Durham was born in the year of our lord February the nineteenth day 1808.
Ferdand Durham was born in the year of our lord December the twentyth Eight day
1809.
Nancy Durham was born in the year of our lord August the Ninth day 1812.
Margaret Durham dyed on Mundy the 12 day of July 1813.
February the first day 1816 Arche'd Durham and Jan Careathers was Married in
the year of our lord [not given].
Franklin Durham was born in the year of our lord January 20th day 1817. [Another
entry stated that Franklin Durham died November 4 day 1819]
William Durham was born in the year of our lord March the 9th day 1818.
Martha Durham was born in the year of our lord August the 16 day 1819.
Franklin Durham was born in the year of our lord December the 5 day 1821.
Thomas Sebron Durham was born in the year of our lord February the 12 Day 1823.
Susanna Ann Durham was born in the year of our lord August the 5 day 1825.
Doctor Mansfield Durham was born in he year of our lord April 5 1827.
Archibald Durham died in the year of our lord January the 17 day 1840.
I personally hand copied entries from the Doctor Mansfield Durham Bible and it
gave the same birth date for him. The Bible was then owned by Martha Lloyd of
Chapel Hill, NC now deceased.
I have these Orange County, North Carolina marriages for the children taken from
Brent Holcomb's book:
William H. Durham married a Martha [maiden name unknown]but no marriage record
found.
Martha Durham married Henry Robertson 16 August 1858.
Sarah Durham married Thomas Major Lloyd 17 November 1842.
Thomas Seborn Durham married Mary Chastain daughter of Rainey Chastain and Mary
Nicholson, probably in Georgia, from other records.
Susannah Ann Durham married Aaron Edwards 15 march 1860.
Doctor Mansfield Durham married Nancy Caroline Perry 19 September 1855.
Jane Durham never married according to my records.
Alvis Durham married Susannah Faucett 1 September 1827 and second to Catharine
Strayhorn 1 November 1838.
Ferdinand Durham married Susannah Carruthers [Careathers] 8 October 1829. Not
sure of spelling for Carruthers.
Nancy Durham is believed to have married Mark Durham Jr, son of Mark Durham and
wife Sarah Robertson but no marriage record found.
If anyone notes any errors please post them so that the error can be known to
others. I am consolidating the Orange County, North Carolina Durham information
and could use any other Bible entries people might have.
